Why Blogs are so Important

Many experienced internet marketers have talked about why blogs are so important for business owners, affiliate marketers, artists, authors, etc. They definitely have a good point. The amount of blogs growing on a daily basis is mind boggling. Blogs are crucial for business owners if they want to build an online presence quickly. Blogs with an RSS feed are lead magnets. Even though there are an increase in blogs, there are still a lot of business owners who are hesitant to use blogs and are happy with having an ordinary website created.

What are Blogs Anyway?

Blogs are a content management system with a website template. Blog owners use them to express themselves in anyway they desire. Anyone can create a blog and there are a large number of free blogging platforms around. Because people have a lot to say, they will create their own blogging accounts and begin to create blog posts. Others online can interact with the bloggers and share their views on whatever was expressed in a blog post through commenting.

Why do Businesses Need Blogs?

As previously stated, blogs are meant to attract traffic which will in the end convert to new clients or customers. Nevertheless, if you had created a blog a year ago and only wrote two posts, you will receive very little traffic. Whatever traffic you would receive would not likely convert to clients or customers either.

That is one very significant reason to important to update blogs at least three times a month. Search engines are immediately notified when you do update a blog, and that by itself will help your blog rank higher.

If you post often on your blog, that is going to help you in many ways. You will not only attract loads of new traffic- but if you already have an audience, they will want to keep reading your posts.

Blogs are also essential for being used to help business owners build his or her reputation in a niche. The more the blog grows, the more business owners can demonstrate their knowledge in which ever field they have chosen.

To conclude, this is why blogs are going to help business owners gain more traffic and clients than ordinary websites. Ordinary websites lack RSS feeds and there is only so often they can be updated. With a blog, there is no limit on how often new posts are created. Because search engines love new content, a blog that is updated often will rank very high on search engines. Ordinary websites have a tougher chance of ranking high for that reason alone.

One of the website my team worked on got a Google Penalty. The possible reason for the penalty might have been external site-wide links. The first thing I did was to look for the rankings of the website in other major search engines Yahoo and Bing. The keywords were still on top on both the other search engines. The next thing was to avoid the panic situation which webmasters and SEO experts face when they see one of the websites their team work upon gets a penalty for some wrong action/wrong SEO practices. The penalty for our website might have been due to some sort of spam link building tactics done on the website. I tried to handle the situation as calm as possible. Below are the steps I took to remove the effect of the penalty.

Day 1: First thing I did on the page is to change all the file names to show new page URL thus removing the spam link effect of all previous off-page submissions done. I blocked all the old pages using robots.txt. I changed all the content in newly created pages.

Day 2: Created new Title and Meta Tags for the newly created page and uploaded the same. I also removed the old RSS feed. I then re-submitted the Sitemap.

Day 3: Send a reconsideration request to Google through webmaster tools account.

Day 5: The website has got all the SERP back and some keywords got higher SERP.

The first and the formost thing is to check whether your website is having a penalty or not. There are many ways to check the same. You can read about 10 Ways to Diagnose a Google Penalty .

Share your thoughts and experiences of avoiding Google penalty. You can a share the things you have done to avoid a Google penalty. You can get in touch with me personally through my Twitter Handle @cijoaj2003

I may wonder on the issue of Microsoft today, when they want to give compensation to the big time web owners to de-index themselves to Google. However, their plan was crushed and was not really worth for it. We know that webmasters and bloggers, especially the new ones, have Google as their first thing in mind to do search engine optimizing (SEO).

Microsoft's search engine, known as Bing, has been an attractable search engine like no other. They have no sufficient SEO tools compared to Google, but their design is unique. Everytime you refresh the main page of Bing, the design gradually changes over and over again. Most designs are related to "Mother Nature".

It is the possibility of Bing, which they can overtake Google in the next few years. It is possible guys, even Yahoo can still win the race of being the top used search engine in the world. When you take a look at Google's home page, it's practically simple as in "white", and nothing changed a little bit.

But why are they still at the top of the mountain right now? Their secret is through the word SEO, which most webmasters and bloggers are checking their page ranks, Alexa rank, backlinks, inbound links, do-follow and no-follow links through the use of Google. Many software and tools like Seoquake, are much more compatible to Google rather than Yahoo and Bing.

Google has the best ad revenue sharing program like Adsense and Adwords, and it's most popular to be discussed in any webmaster forums, blogs and Web 2.0 sites than Yahoo Search Marketing and Microsoft AdCenter.

What's for Bing anyway? We know that they're one of the best search engines used in the internet right now, and they are making huge profits from their customers. If we think that they can surpass Google and Yahoo by themselves, they must look at the features which they don't have and what they don't have. That's what Bing can do for now in order to surpass them.

Aside from focusing ourselves to optimize our websites in Google, how about we optimize it to other search engines like Yahoo, Bing, Ask, Dogpile, etc. For me, it is possible. But there's a catch. If you know your target market and your targeted traffic to a search engine, that's an advantage. But what makes you think that optimizing your website to other search engines is really worth?

Since Google is mostly used by webmasters and bloggers to generate more backlinks and targeted traffic, we can do the same to Yahoo, Bing, DogPile, Ask and other lower types of search engines. But first we need to know how to index our websites to these search engines.

Google has their own program called Google Webmaster Tools, which is very easy to deal with, and to submit your URL for indexing your site. Indexing is very important because without this, your optimizing job will be useless. Yahoo and Bing have their own webmaster tool, same with Ask and DogPile, but it's too difficult to use.

If you also know about search engine marketing (SEM), we can only submit our website by just including the URL there and to be included in their index, but you only have less than 10% chance that your site might get indexed to these search engines without doing it manually, unless you hire a professional search engine marketer.

If we want to index our website and to perform search optimizing, we should do it manually, not using some auto-submission software, because it is considered as a "Black Hat" style, which search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing, DogPile and Ask are against it, because it will only destroy their reputation. We must not do this illegally, but rather to take it slow but sure in indexing and optimizing our websites to search engines, so that it will be considered "White Hat" and SEO-friendly too.
