Lately I have been playing with the idea of giving my Facebook pages some SEO love. After reading numerous posts, ebooks and other blogs and implementing some of the ideas given by those mediums that the following 5 tips are the ones that have worked the best for me.

So in no particular order, these are the 5 tips that I think would make most sense to use when giving your Facebook fan page some SEO luvvin.

1. Select a good page name
Create a clear and concise Facebook page name. Don’t get too worried about fitting as many keywords as possible in the page name. Name the title after your business or a phrase that will be most effective when people search for your business.

2. Vanity URLs
Facebook enables fan pages with over 100 fans to get a vanity URL. A vanity URL is a short facebook URL that is easier to remember then the standard Facebook URLs. For example, you could get www.facebook.com/yourbusinessnamehere and these URLs are extremely helpful in getting rankings.

3. Post something keyword rich in the About box
You know the box that sits on the left hand side of your profile page? Well, that little box sits relatively high up in the source code of the facebook page and is accessible to the search engines

4. Inbound links

Everyone knows that inbound links from authoritative websites helps to boost PR, this also applies to your FaceBook page. For example, you could use the “Find Us On Facebook” badge which Facebook has specifically created for this purpose.

However, Facebbook has also created guidelines for promoting your Facebook page, which state that they basically do not want you to claim that you have “officially” partnered with Facebook.

5. Outbound links

This one just seems obvious. Try and link out from your fan page to your company website/blog.

If you have come across any other ideas to optimise your Facebook page, leave a comment :)
